[00:44.00]And I've wondered who's the woman for whom we all kill
[00:50.00]But I am leaving tomorrow and you can do what you will
[00:54.00]Only first I am asking you why.'
[01:00.00]Down in the long narrow hall he was led
[01:04.00]Into her rooms with her tapestries red
[01:09.00]And she never once took the crown from her head
[01:15.00]She asked him there to sit down.
[01:23.00]He said, 'I see you now, and you are so very young
[01:26.00]But I've seen more battles lost than I have battles won
[01:30.00]And I've got this intuition, says it's all for your fun
[01:35.00]And now will you tell me why?'
[01:42.00]The young queen, she fixed him with an arrogant eye
[01:45.00]She said, 'You won't understand, and you may as well not try'
[01:50.00]But her face was a child's, and he thought she would cry
[01:55.00]But she closed herself up like a fan.

[02:11.00]He laid his hand then on top of her head
[02:15.00]And he bowed her down to the ground.

[02:59.00]And the sun, it was gold, though the sky, it was gray

[03:09.00]But she knew how it frightened her, and she turned away
[03:14.00]And would not look at his face again.
[03:19.00]And he said, 'I want to live as an honest man
[03:24.00]To get all I deserve and to give all I can
[03:27.00]And to love a young woman who I don't understand
[03:33.00]Your highness, your ways are very strange.'
[03:40.00]But the crown, it had fallen, and she thought she would break
[03:46.00]And she stood there, ashamed of the way her heart ached
[03:52.00]She took him to the doorstep and she asked him to wait
[03:55.00]She would only be a moment inside.
[04:00.00]Out in the distance her order was heard
[04:04.00]And the soldier was killed, still waiting for her word
[04:11.00]And while the queen went on strangeling in the solitude she preferred
[04:15.00]The battle continued on
