[ti:] [ar:] [al:] [00:00.85]There is an inn, a merry old inn [00:04.29]beneath an old grey hill, [00:09.13]And there they brew a beer so brown [00:12.57]That the Man in the Moon himself came down [00:17.31]one night to drink his fill. [00:23.33]The ostler has a tipsy cat [00:25.43]that plays a five-stringed fiddle; [00:27.75]And up and down he runs his bow, [00:30.06]Now squeaking high, now purring low, [00:32.30]now sawing in the middle. [00:38.07]The landlord keeps a little dog [00:39.86]that is mighty fond of jokes; [00:41.95]When there's good cheer among the guests, [00:44.11]He cocks an ear at all the jests [00:46.57]and laughs until he chokes. [00:52.00]They also keep a horned cow [00:54.26]as proud as any queen; [00:56.38]But music turns her head like ale, [00:58.53]And makes her wave her tufted tail [01:00.85]and dance upon the green. [01:17.92]And O! the rows of silver dishes [01:20.11]and the store of silver spoons! [01:22.17]For Sunday there's a special pair, [01:24.59]And these they polish up with care [01:26.70]on Saturday afternoons. [01:32.30]The Man in the Moon was drinking deep, [01:34.35]and the cat began to wail; [01:36.36]A dish and a spoon on the table danced, [01:38.88]The cow in the garden madly pranced, [01:40.83]and the little dog chased his tail. [01:47.30]The Man in the Moon took another mug, [01:50.73]and then rolled beneath his chair; [01:56.28]And there he dozed and dreamed of ale, [02:00.80]Till in the sky the stars were pale, [02:04.71]and dawn was in the air. [02:10.88]Then the ostler said to his tipsy cat: [02:12.89]'The white horses of the Moon, [02:15.12]They neigh and champ their silver bits; [02:17.38]But their master's been and drowned his wits, [02:19.49]and the Sun will?be rising soon!' [02:25.05]So the cat on his fiddle played hey-diddle-diddle, [02:27.41]a jig that would wake the dead: [02:29.47]He squeaked and sawed and quickened the tune, [02:31.46]While the landlord shook the Man in the Moon: [02:33.68]'It's after three!' he said. [03:04.64]They rolled the Man slowly up the hill [03:06.61]and bundled him into the Moon, [03:08.66]While his horses galloped up in rear, [03:10.87]And the cow came capering like a deer, [03:13.12]and a dish ran up with the spoon. [03:18.51]Now quicker the fiddle went deedle-dum-diddle; [03:20.71]the dog began to roar, [03:22.51]The cow and the horses stood on their heads; [03:25.06]The guests all bounded from their beds [03:27.08]and danced upon the floor. [03:32.77]With a ping and a pong the fiddle-strings broke! [03:34.99]the cow jumped over the Moon, [03:36.69]And the little dog laughed to see such fun, [03:38.86]And the Saturday dish went off at a run [03:40.97]with the silver Sunday spoon. [03:56.39]The round Moon rolled behind the hill [04:00.29]as the Sun raised up her head. [04:04.96]She hardly believed her fiery eyes; [04:08.77]For though it was day, to her surprise [04:13.29]they all went back to bed!
