[00:00.10]From VOA Learning English, [00:02.68]this is the Technology Report. [00:05.75]You could find all the latest technology products [00:09.75]at the International Consumer Electronics Show [00:13.50]in Las Vegas, Nevada. [00:15.61][Sound] [00:19.10]The show took place in early January. [00:22.06]It was a major event for technology lovers [00:26.12]and product manufacturers alike. [00:29.63]Thousands of people travelled to Las Vegas for the show. [00:33.99]Many businesses were showing products with curved displays, [00:38.90]the rounded edges were on everything, [00:42.41]from televisions to mobile phones. [00:45.51]Sony, Samsung, and LG all displayed [00:50.42]curved ultra-high definition televisions, [00:53.93]some models as big as 279 centimeters. [00:58.79]Bridget Carey is with CNET, an electronics website. [01:04.35]"You can buy a curved TV, [01:05.50]but if you can't decide if you want it flat or not, [01:07.06]you can choose a flexible one. [01:09.37]Curved is supposed to be a more immersive experience [01:12.43]when it surrounds you. [01:13.84]But maybe not everyone wants curved all the time," said Bridget Carey. [01:16.55]Another hot idea was wearable technology. [01:19.99]Sony, Intel, and others demonstrated smart watches [01:25.54]that interact wirelessly with your telephone. [01:29.41]Samsung's Galaxy Gear watch can connect with an automobile [01:34.66]- the BMW i3 electric car. [01:38.42]Bridget Carey says a smart watch is a good idea. [01:43.74]"It has apps now that can give you a quick glance [01:46.79]at the sports score with an ESPN app. [01:49.05]You can see who texted you, what calls you missed," she said. [01:52.56]Self-driving shuttles and solar cars were also on display at the 2014 show. [01:59.47]Car maker Renault demonstrated an electric race car, [02:04.13]that trick excite automobile fans worldwide. [02:08.09]Audi was showing a self-driving A7. [02:12.35]Last year, the technology needed for their driver-less A7 [02:17.17]took up the whole rear end of the car. [02:20.62]This year, the computer is about the size of an Apple iPad. [02:25.93]Another company called Induct showed off its self-piloted shuttle, [02:31.95]called the Navia. [02:33.75]The vehicle is 100 percent electric. [02:37.34]Ford Motors made news with its solar powered car [02:42.38]- the C-MAX Solar Energi. [02:45.04]Ford's Dave McCreadie says the trick is the vehicle's solar canopy. [02:51.20]"It boosts the power of the solar panels by essentially magnifying the sun. [02:55.56]So it takes a larger square footprint area of the sun [02:59.97]and concentrates down onto the solar panels. [03:02.53]The purpose of this is to enable the customer [03:05.59]to recharge their vehicle off the grid," he said. [03:08.45]Three dimensional printers at the show produced more complex, [03:13.27]high-quality designs than other 3D printers on the market. [03:18.78]And the price of 3D printers is falling. Some cost less than $500. [03:26.18]One company, 3D Systems has created something new: 3D-printed food. [03:33.72]ChefJet and ChefJetPro use melted sugar to create sweet creations. [03:41.33]The sugary 3D printers are expected to cost [03:45.54]between $5,000 and $10,000 when they go on sale. [03:50.81]And that is the Technology Report from VOA Learning English.
