[00:00.22]When I was superintendent of schools in Palo Alto, California, [00:04.97]Polly Tyner, [00:06.16]the president of our board of trustees, [00:08.04]wrote a letter that was printed in the Palo Alto Times. [00:11.69]Polly's son, Jim, [00:12.99]had great difficulty in school. [00:14.60]He was classified as educationally handicapped [00:17.75]and required a great deal of patience on the part of his parents and teachers. [00:21.53]But Jim was a happy kid with a great smile that lit up the room. [00:25.02]His parents acknowledged his academic difficulties, [00:27.85]but always tried to help him see his strengths [00:30.40]so that he could walk with pride. [00:32.22]Shortly after Jim finished high school, [00:34.07]he was killed in a motorcycle accident. [00:36.37]After his death, [00:37.35]his mother submitted this letter to the newspaper. [00:39.88]Today we buried our 20-year-old son. [00:42.37]He was killed in a motorcycle accident on Friday night. [00:45.81]How I wish I had known when I talked to him last [00:49.10]that it would be the last time.
