Some believe that "Christian" is another word for "preachy." If that was the case, John Newton could not have been a Christian. He was a slave trader and was responsible for much pain and sorrow. One day he was literally hit in the head and in a light saw what the entire faith really meant: grace. Then he wrote Amazing Grace. |
Amazing Grace how sweet the sound |
That saved a wretch like me |
I once was lost but now I'm found |
Was blind but now I see |
Twas grace that taught my heart to fear |
And grace my fears relieved |
How precious did that grace appear |
The hour I first believed |
Through many dangerous t? and s? |
I have already come |
This grace has bought me safe this far |
And grace will leave me home |
When we've been there ten-thousand years |
Bright shining as the sun |
We've no less days to sing God's praise |
And when we've first begun |
Amazing Grace how sweet the sound |
That saved oh wretch |
Like me I once was lost but now I'm found |
Was blind but now I see |
