I've walked this road, went up and down
I've walked this road a thousand times
I've walked up and round the bend
To find this road it has no end
The road is hard the road is long
It tears you up and wears you down
It feeds you hope and then make you blue
This dirty road where I met you
I saw your face in filthy bars
Where I fed my broken heart
And when I finally caught your eye
I knew a part in me had died
And with my mind too dim to think
I took your hand and I paid your drink
And then we strolled on to my home
A little further down the road
Soon comes the time when you stop to bother
Slowly the wine it'll turn to water
It's hard to help it even though you know
Soon you'll be back on that old road
A few years later down that road
A thousand fights and slamming doors
A thousand lies that I did tell
Hope you still love me anyway
You know there's changes bound to come
You got me scared and I did run
It took some time but now I know
I won't go back down that old road |
