[00:15.00] |
The devil went down to Georgia. |
[00:18.00] |
He was looking for a soul to steal. |
[00:20.00] |
And he was in a bind 'Cause he was way behind |
[00:22.00] |
And was willin' to make a deal. |
[00:24.00] |
When he came across a young man playing on a fiddle and playin' it hot. |
[00:27.00] |
And the devil jumped up on a hickory stump |
[00:29.00] |
and said,"Boy let me tell you what: |
[00:31.00] |
I bet you didn't know it but I'm a fiddle player too, |
[00:34.00] |
And if you care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you. |
[00:38.00] |
Now you play a pretty good fiddle boy. But give the devil his due |
[00:41.00] |
I'll bet a fiddle of gold against your soul 'Cause I think I'm better than you." |
[00:45.00] |
The boy said, "My name's Johnny And it might be a sin. |
[00:48.00] |
But I'll take your bet, your gonna regret 'Cause I'm the best that's ever been." |
[00:52.00] |
Johnny rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard 'Cause hell's broke loose in Georgia. |
[00:56.00] |
And the devil deals the cards |
[00:59.00] |
And if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold. |
[01:02.00] |
But if you lose the devil gets your soul. |
[01:06.00] |
<Johnny's Play> |
[01:13.00] |
The devil opened up his case and he said,"I'll start this show." |
[01:16.00] |
And fire flew from his fingertips As he rosined up his bow |
[01:20.00] |
And he pulled the bow across the strings And it made an evil hiss |
[01:23.00] |
Then a band of demons joined in And it sounded something like this |
[01:30.00] |
<Devil's Play> |
[02:03.00] |
When the devil finished Johnny said,"Well you're pretty good ol' son! |
[02:06.00] |
But sit down in that chair right there And let me show you how it's done!" |
[02:10.00] |
Fire on the mountain, run boys run |
[02:13.00] |
Devil's in the house of the rising sun |
[02:17.00] |
Chickens in the breadpan, picking out dough |
[02:20.00] |
Granny does your dog bite? No, child, no |
[02:26.00] |
<Johnny's Play> |
[02:44.00] |
The devil bowed his head Because he knew that he'd been beat, |
[02:47.00] |
And he laid that golden fiddle On the ground at Johnny's feet |
[02:51.00] |
Johnny said, "Devil, just come on back if you ever wanna try again. |
[02:54.00] |
I done told you once, You son-of-a-bitch, |
[02:56.00] |
I'm the best that's ever been!" |
[02:58.00] |
He played: Fire on the mountain, run boys run |
[03:02.00] |
Devil's in the house of the rising sun |
[03:05.00] |
Chickens in the breadpan, picking out dough |
[03:09.00] |
Granny does your dog bite? No, child, no |
