One thing is certain, at the very least, the boneeating worm shows us just how little we know about life in the ocean deep. Right, a special day for this specimen. Yep, we' ve had it since about 2005ish. Right, and now it' s time to get on display? Yes. Gosh, it' s like an alien. Even stranger, possibly. Let' s move it into this trolley. Straight in. Lovely. Every now and again one of the mysteries from the deep oceans is found by chance and is presented to the Natural History Museum. So are you quite excited to see it? Yeah, really excited. I mean, we kind of got it about three years ago enough and we haven' t really seen it since the initial preservation stages. So, yeah, looking forward to seeing it. This creature was hauled aboard a ship run by the British Antarctic Survey. Having been preserved and stabilised, it' s time for Jon Ablett to have a closeup look. |
