[00:07.89] | I live by the Hudson River, |
[00:10.6] | And a lot of boats go by. |
[00:13.2] | They glide by so quickly, |
[00:14.90] | Camouflaged against the Jersey Shore. |
[00:20.26] | Sometimes at night when the liners are lit up, |
[00:22.88] | It's hard to tell which is moving, |
[00:24.62] | the boat, or the shoreline. |
[00:27.1] | And it seems like all of Manhattan is comin' anchored, |
[00:29.78] | And slowly drifting out to sea. |
[00:32.31] | I spent, hours trying to film them, |
[00:35.10] | So I set up a camera by the window. |
[00:37.95] | And every time I hear a horn, |
[00:40.20] | I ran to the window. |
[00:42.23] | But I usually miss them. |
[00:45.52] | It's kind of rhythem, |
[00:47.48] | I kind of thinking it's been getting into the song I've been writing lately. |
[00:52.47] | Like walking upstairs in the dark, |
[00:54.65] | You think there's one more step than there actually is. |
[00:57.73] | And you foot comes pounding down, |
[01:00.12] | Is nothing underneath. |
[01:02.39] | Or like the piano we got a few months ago, |
[01:05.47] | Only a few keys work. |
[01:07.96] | So we put it out in the hall near the door. |
[01:11.22] | When people come in, |
[01:12.6] | they break their hands acorss the keyboard, |
[01:15.6] | playing a few notes that still work. |
[01:19.8] | It's kind of a doorbell now. |
[01:23.42] | All the sounds around were so distracting, |
[01:26.22] | I was trying to concentrated |
[01:29.11] | on a song for performance. |
[01:31.69] | But I couldn't. |
[01:33.95] | And my mother called and said, |
[01:36.0] | "Why not come out here and write your song? “ |
[01:38.83] | It's real quiet, I just put on new carpets down." |
[01:42.61] | (Anybody home? )( |
[01:44.29] | When I got there, I noticed that |
[01:46.65] | The new carpets were so thick that |
[01:48.89] | None of the doors closed. |
[01:51.33] | The only door that still worked was the door to parent's room. |
[01:54.97] | It was a swing door, |
[01:57.21] | Every time someone opened it, |
[01:59.14] | It thwack into the parrot's cage, |
[02:01.81] | And the parrot screamed. |
[02:03.54] | Each time this happened totally surprised dozens of times a day. |
[02:08.9] | And the shirek filled the whole house, |
[02:11.27] | Through all the half-opened doors. |
[02:23.11] | And this is the song, |
[02:26.32] | I finally wrote. |

[02:23.11] | And this is the song, |
[02:26.32] | I finally wrote. |
