[00:00.50] |
Dear friends, I think it's now, time to at least have a first balance sheet, |
[00:07.76] |
not the last, the first balance sheet of the Obama presidency |
[00:13.97] |
As many of you know the images of the campaign are still vivid |
[00:19.93] |
Big, large mobilizations in the United States, |
[00:23.31] |
of young people primarily, desperate for change |
[00:30.47] |
And the slogan of that campaign: Change We Can Believe In" |
[00:35.44] |
Change Change Change |
[00:38.20] |
But what has changed and what hasn't changed |
[00:41.17] |
There has been of course been a change in the presidency, |
[00:47.38] |
and we can't complain too much about that (Laughter) |
[00:54.16] |
There is a new vice-president also in the United States, |
[00:58.27] |
and we can't complain too much about that (Laughter and Applause) |
[01:04.55] |
But the Defence Secretary is the same. |
[01:09.03] |
That's the guy who sits in the pentagon and organizes wars, |
[01:13.07] |
and the reason he was kept on was to show that there is, |
[01:17.56] |
there are both elements of discontinuity at the top |
[01:22.28] |
And very strong elements of continuity |
[01:26.71] |
And the reason for that, is that |
[01:31.25] |
if you wear Caesar's clothes, you have to behave like Caesar |
